Johns Hopkins University (Master's)
I graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a double major in an interdisciplinary honors curriculum (concentration in creative writing) and Psychology. I attended the University of Texas at Dallas to earn my first master's degree in interdisciplinary studies in biology and health policy. Currently, I am attending Johns Hopkins University online M.A. in science writing.
At Hunter College, I volunteered at the Arabic department as a tutor.
My knowledge of Arabic comes from being a native-born speaker as well as attending elementary and some high school in Yemen. I learned Modern Standard Arabic with grammar as well as Classical. I can teach from beginner to advanced level. Whether you are starting to learn how to write or you are trying to perfect your language skills, I can help. I'm familiar with all dialects with the exception of Moroccan/Algerian/Tunisian dialects. Si hablas español, no hay problema. Puedo hablar en español pero no perfectamente. Yo fui a Argentina y Mexico por un mes para aprender el español y quiero aprender más!
Teaching or tutoring is my passion! I love to see my students improve their language skills and confidence. I'm also very patient and like to use a lot of different resources to teach you. I don't believe in teaching a language with a pencil and a paper at all times. I like to incorporate things like videos, songs, useful worksheet, and anything that will get you to understand and retain information. I spend a considerable amount of time preparing each lesson. Memorization is never the answer and I will rarely ask you to memorize anything. Instead, you will remember through learning about something more than once in different occasions and different contexts. I also customize my tutoring to your own needs and goals. Every lesson I deliver is especially made for you to fit with your goals.

I enjoyed my first lesson with Ava. We worked on the alphabet for the first lesson. She is very patient and took the time to discuss my goals and expectations to ensure whether or not she would be a good fit.
Very kind and greeted with a warm welcoming. Knowledgeable & helpful to your needs to better accommodate your lesson. Would recommend to others interested or seeking to learn Arabic like myself.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a native Arabic speaker with professional tutoring experience. I also speak Spanish and can help you see similarities between Arabic and Spanish. In addition to completing middle school and some high school in the Middle East in Arabic language, I have substituted for an Arabic teacher and taught his class in his absence. I also volunteered to tutor at the Arabic language department at Hunter College in NYC.
