Philadelphia University (Fashion Design)
Nightwing started learning about clothing at the knee of her stepmother, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design at Philadelphia University. She has worked for several theaters, and has her own business designing and creating what she calls costumes for life... suits, evening gowns, and casual wear.
She loves to help others discover the joys of sewing, and has experience in all levels of instruction. People who have learned from Nightwing all say they have never had so much fun, nor have they ever learned so much, as in her classes.
She is also well skilled to teach in the Liberal Arts area, with a concentration in English and Literature. Excellent tutor. Very patient and knowledgeable from start to finish. Nightwing lets the student work on the project individually but providing the skill and knowledge to sew a pair of pants.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I love to read. No, seriously, I have been known to read the backs of cereal boxes when nothing else is available. I would rather read the works of, say, Shakespeare or Asimov, but it is all literature to me, and all has a story to tell.
I think everyone should enjoy the world of Reading. I want to help everyone to get the joy from it that I do.
The only thing I do not enjoy reading is badly written prose. One of my goals in life is to help everyone write well.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design from Philadelphia University. I teach all aspects of sewing, from learning to use a domestic paper pattern to pattern drafting and draping. I teach fabric handling skills, fitting techniques, and alterations.
I have been costuming since before I entered high school. I grew up backstage at the opera, and have costumed plays, operas, videos, and film. I have been a Costumer for theaters in New England, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I have been Costume Director for productions throughout New England. I am a Costuming Consultant for several amateur and professional companies in Connecticut. I teach Costume Creation and Management for area educational programs and theater groups. I have designed, sketched, created, altered, and inventoried costumes for over 200 plays.
