About Stephanie

Hello!

I am a junior professor with my PhD at a local 4 year university, and a certified clinical health professional. Through clinical training, research training for my PhD, graduate coursework and clinical experience, I have worked with kids and adults of all ages, in a variety of environments. I have expertise in anatomy and physiology, neuroscience, basic physics and math, speech and hearing, reading, pharmacology, genetics, and technical writing at the high school, college, and graduate level. I've been teaching college students for 5+ years, and I love my work. I have experience advising student one on one on career choices and study skills as well. Also, as a professor with experience writing and grading multiple choice, essay and true-false tests, I am able to discuss specific test-taking strategies and skills as well.

It's difficult for me to write an overall description of my tutoring style, as it could vary widely from student to the next. Some students learn better with crazy visual diagrams, concept maps, drawings and charts, while others may do better with clearly organized, hierarchical notes. Part of any tutoring session or initial meeting is to talk about and explore individual learning styles, and then work out an effective lesson plan.

Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments you might have - I look forward to being able to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

As part of my position as a university professor, I advise and counsel undergraduate students on career paths, class choices, orientation to the college experience, and choosing a major. I also have experience serving on admission committees for graduate school.

Genetics

I have both taken and taught graduate level course work regarding genetic disorders, genetic testing, genetic counseling and fundamental concepts of genetic science (patterns of inheritance, DNA, chromosomes, pedigree use, transmission across generations, risk of comorbidity in siblings, etc). I'm happy to provide a syllabus if requested to verify topics taught.

Hard Of Hearing

I am a certified clinical audiologist. I have had 4+ years of graduate work experience, specific to the diagnosis, screening, and rehabilitation of individuals with hearing loss.

Pharmacology

I currently teach a graduate course in pharmacology. Topics for the course include: basic molecular mechanisms of pharmacology, basic reviews of cell membrane and receptor biology, mechanisms of action of different drugs, detailed descriptions of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, and mechanisms of cell death and free radicals. I'm happy to provide a syllabus upon request.

Speech

I have taught two semesters of undergraduate coursework in Public Speaking at the University of Connecticut. I have also taken and taught undergraduate and graduate work on speech production, speech sounds, and the acoustics of speech.

What a great session!!

I am so thankful for Stephanie! The sessions are going great and we are already seeing wonderful results. After our last session my daughter had a very tough quiz in Pre-Calculus and scored 100%!! We are off to a great start for the school year and we could not be happier.
