My name is Sarah and I am an experienced and qualified teacher of English as a second language.I have a Bachelors degree majoring in German, minoring in French from Exeter University, UK, as well as my TESL Diploma from Hammersmith and West London College,UK.
I have lived and taught English in Germany and Italy. I have taught students of all ages, from 6 years to 60 years, in mono-lingual and multi-lingual classes, in one on one tutoring sessions and group classes. I enjoy teaching students of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced level exam classes. I have taught in both public and private schools in Europe as well as international schools in London.
My teaching style focuses on developing all 4 language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing.Through creative and varied teaching methods I encourage active student participation, resulting in improved communication in everyday situations relevant to my students' lives (school, work, home, travel). Well prepared lessons keep students focused on learning through a variety of activities, which provides them with many opportunities to practice their English and their newly acquired skills.
My knowledge of foreign languages (German, French, Italian, and some basic Spanish) helps to me understand the challenges students face and the source of common errors.
Most recently I have tutored at Mercy Learning Center, in Bridgeport, CT, previously I was a full time teacher at a leading English Language school. I have also taught English to students from elementary school through high school in Florence, Italy, and Saarbrucken, Germany.
With my experience of being both a foreign language learner living overseas and a teacher I look forward to teaching you and encouraging you to become an expert English speaker. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
