About June

Lady Noah knows that there are no prizes for predicting rain - prizes only for building Arks! She learned that from her husband, Noah.

My goal in tutoring is the same as hers - to focus on solutions rather than problems. I look for unique solutions that will help each of my students achieve success and build confidence. I try to build a rapport starting with where they are and I use understanding, patience and humor to gain their trust.

My unique executive and academic background help me help my students solve their individual learning issues. I have been a teacher of middle school students, teens and adults over the last 30 years in a variety of academic and business subjects; I cater to and customize my teaching style to the needs of each of my students.

I also have extensive experience with special needs students including those with Anxiety and Asperger's Syndrome. Having a grandson with Asperger's has opened my eyes to the unique needs of each of my special needs students.

I love helping students master English, History and Business subjects. Organizing, problem solving, scheduling and learning good study skills are also part of my tutoring. My excellent references from students, parents, other teachers and guidance counselors are available to anyone thinking of using me as a tutor.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I currently hold a valid teaching certification in Business Education, Grades 7-12 with the State of Connecticut, expiring in August of 2016.

I the subject I am able to teach include Business Writing, Business English, Keyboarding and Business Law.

I have 30 years of teaching business subjects to adults in business including Fortune 100 companies. I have taught communication skills, project management, sales, marketing, time management, and career transition courses.

Currently, I work with the City of Norwalk, CT. Board of Education as a Homebound Tutor, Grades 7-12, teaching academic subjects including Language Arts and English, Social Studies, World History, American History and Civics, Consumer Math, Employment Math and Finance, Biology, Earth and Physical Sciences. Career Development

From 1986-1994 I was a Career Counselor with Lee, Hecht, Harrison a leading Career Transition Consulting Firm in the U.S. and Europe. I became the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of their flagship New York City Office with 80 consultants reporting to me.

I designed career transition training materials and taught business professionals career transition skills that included Resume Writing, Networking, Interviewing, and Salary Negotiating.

My client companies and their employees in New York City included Goldman Sachs Investments, J.P. Morgan and Co., Bankers Trust, IBM, AT&T, U.S. Postal Service, Girl Scouts of America, Sprint, among others.

I was also an Adjunct Professor at Katherine Gibbs College in Norwalk, Connecticut, where I taught classes at the college level in Business Writing, Interviewing, Salary Negotiations and Career Transition Planning.

Public Speaking

I have taught public speaking to professionals from Fortune 100 companies since 1986. As a corporate trainer of Communispond, a communications company in New York City, I taught three day presentation skills classes to business professionals. These classes were devoted to helping participants develop successful presentation and public speaking skills.

I have also taught public speaking skills as part of the Career Transition Program at Lee Hecht Harrison, a Career Transition Consulting Company in New York City from 1986-1994.

In addition, I have worked with high school and college students on their public speaking skills since 2003. Our goal has been to successfully complete a college or business interview or to give successful speeches and business presentations in the workplace.

My work with students and business professionals has meant building confidence levels, controlling nervousness, organizing material, and using videotape practice sessions. Videotaping enables participants to evaluate their speaking skills, build on strengths, and learn techniques that minimize their weaknesses including nervousness.
