The Cooper Union (Physics)
I might be the tutor you are looking for. Currently, I'm working with a number of students preparing for SAT and ACT math. My approach is personal, patient and empiric. Every learner is different; each has a way of learning which works best for him and which we use together to improve performance. It's an effective technique for test prep.
Here's my background:
I am a graduate Engineer/Physicist and have been tutoring kids from Elementary through College part time for 40+ years. My specialty is students who have had serious problems with math and I have worked with kids ranging from the gifted to special needs. After 54 Patents and a long career in Fortune 500 companies and high-tech startups, I'm now available for tutoring. When not doing that, I'm teaching High School Math part-time at an elite private school.
As an engineer/physicist, I use advanced math daily and generally know it cold. I had hard time in high school myself, but my SAT's were almost perfect. My personal experience often helps me understand and relate to students who need help. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received an MBA from the University of Connecticut in Operations Research and Marketing. I am a former Fortune 500 senior executive and have founded a number of small, successful high tech businesses. For many years I have tutored at the 3rd - 12th level in math, life skills, and ancient languages, specializing in those with learning challenges.
I am a retired physicist/engineer with 53 issued U.S. patents, of which many are in the field of cryptography and other math-related areas. I've been tutoring kids with learning disabilities and other issues as well as the exceptionally talented for 40+ years in elementary math.
