Hi there I'm Dr. Goldenberg,

I am currently interviewing for residency and in the interim would love to help you reach your academic goals. I have well over 10 years of experience in tutoring/teaching and mentoring in academic and clinical settings. I have 7+ years of clinical experience in both hospital and field medicine which I gained through being an EMT and earning my MD. I consider it a privilege to have this time to return to my passion for tutoring. I am motivated to help you thrive.

I earned my BA in biology with honors and a double minor in Scientific writing & Psychology from Manhattanville College.

I then went on to medical school and earned my MD. I chose to rotate through ICU/CCU, pulmonary critical care, Surgical ICU, Emergency medicine, and anesthesiology.

I have worked with students of all ages from elementary school to graduate students. I derive great satisfaction when I know that I have helped someone grasp a concept they have been struggling with and made it click.
I also have experience tutoring individuals with various learning disabilities. I am a very patient individual and I give you my assurance that I will work as hard as I can to provide you with the help you need to reach your goals.

During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in research, primarily in the area of biology, biopsychology/neuroscience, and psychopharmacology. In college, I also served as a Supplemental Instructor / T.A., guest lecturer, lead review sessions in a classroom-lecture-type format for a psychology course on drug use and abuse that was rooted more in neurophysiology and biopsychology.

I have tutored in writing/English composition and scientific/technical writing for 10 years. The student body at my college was very diverse, which allowed me to gain experience working with students who learned English as a second language.
I always put my best effort into helping the students that I tutor. I am confident in my abilities and I look forward to assisting you.

I am proficient in both Macintosh and windows operating systems. I used a PC with windows operating system as a child and made the adjustment to Apple commuters and the Apple operating system mid-way through high school. It is not an easy transition, however, I am confident I can help you through it and provide you with useful information, skills, knowledge, and techniques you will need to utilize your apple computer to its full extent. Additionally, I am the Technology Officer for Weston Volunteer Emergency Medical Services. One of the many responsibilities I have as the Technology officer is working with Apple products and teaching, assisting, and familiarizing members with our technology. This requires me to have an intimate and advanced understanding of Macintosh products, how to use them, and most importantly, how to teach others to use them in a productive and efficient manner.

Proofreading

I have extensive experience as a writing tutor that I have gained over approximately 10 years of working as a tutor in this subject. I also have published work in peer reviewed journals (feel free to take a look using the link at the bottom of the page). When a student approaches me and asks for my assistance in proofreading their work, I think of an individual that already has a draft of their work and simply wants a second set of eyes to look over it for any potential errors. I am a firm believer that even the best writers should seek out a qualified individual to proofread a draft of their work. Whenever possible, I ask a colleague to proofread my work, as it ensures quality. When one works on an essay for a long time it becomes increasingly difficult to find errors, as the writer becomes so familiar with their work. A fresh set of eyes and a new perspective can make a huge difference. That is what I can offer you should you request my services. I am confident that given my skills, experience, and training, I can work with you to make a stellar essay. During my undergraduate career, one of my minors was in scientific writing. As an undergraduate I was employed by the writing center at my college. My college was very diverse, as a large portion of the student body was comprised of international students. By helping these students I gained extensive experience in working with students that struggle with english composition due to the fact that they did not learn english as their first language. I am also very experienced working with students who struggle with learning disabilities and / or special needs. Every student is unique and I cater my approach to assisting students accordingly based on their needs. Generally, my approach to proofreading is to identify the student's goals for their paper, receive the document and correct it digitally using track changes to accommodate students who wish to work with an online tutor. I then follow up once I have corrected the paper, go over reoccurring errors with the s

Nursing

I am always more than happy to work with students or licensed EMTs, Medics, Nurses, PAs, and other members/students of the healthcare professions. My 7+ years in multiple healthcare settings of varying acuity as well as coupled with my scholarly activity gives me confidence that I can help you reach your goals. I have been active as an EMT and Crew Cheif for the past 7 years and serve as an instructor and mentor for the member of my ambulance service. While earning my MD, I chose to do electives in pulmonary critical care, ICU, Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU, Emergency medicine, and anesthesiology. I believe that my knowledge coupled with my extensive clinical experience in the field and in treatment facilities can help you reach your goals. Many students I work with are studying for the PANCE, NREMT, etc.

Pharmacology,

Pharmacology

I have extensive experience in research, specifically in the area of psychopharmacology, which I gained by conducting a study I designed for my senior thesis: “Effects of (S-)propranolol in a Binge Model of Cocaine Administration During Adolescence on Reducing Anxiety-Like Behaviors in Rats.” I have experience conducting pharmacological studies using the rodent model. During my undergraduate career I served as a guest lecturer, Supplemental Instructor / T.A. and lead review sessions in a classroom-lecture-type format for a psychology course on drug use and abuse that was rooted in psychopharmacology, neurophysiology and biopsychology. I am intimately familiar with the fundamental aspects of pharmacology such as mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dose response curves, drug interactions, receptor physiology, drug tolerance (cellular, behavioral, and metabolic/induction tolerance). I am knowledgeable about the pharmacology of psychoactive drugs, drugs of abuse, analgesics, psychotropic drugs / pharmacotherapeutic intervention for the treatment of mental illness, and various pharmacotherapeutic interventions used in palliative care and pain management. As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) & physician I can easily incorporate clinical applications of pharmacology. I find that incorporating clinical applications of pharmacology engages students. Related coursework includes: microbiology, infectious diseases, drug use and abuse, abnormal psychology, and the physiological basis of behavior.
Physiology,

Physiology

I have been a tutor for biology courses, including human anatomy and physiology, in high school all the way through college. I have taken anatomy and physiology in high school and in college. I have also served as a tutor for the course in high school and college. I am also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). My position enables me to incorporate clinical examples of anatomy and physiology. In my experience I have found that incorporating clinical applications of these types of subjects engages students, as many students find the subject material more engaging when supplemented with a clinical component and real world applications.
Psychology

Psychology

I minored in psychology as an undergraduate. In college I served as a psychology tutor and tutored courses including Fundamentals of Psychology, Abnormal psychology (pathopsychology), The Physiological Basis of Behavior, and Drug Use and Abuse. I also served as a guest lecturer, Supplemental Instructor / T.A. and lead review sessions in a classroom-lecture-type format for a psychology course on drug use and abuse that was rooted more in neurophysiology and biopsychology. During my undergraduate career I had the opportunity to gain extensive research experience in the area of psychology, biopsychology / neuroscience, and psychopharmacology by conducting a study for my senior thesis: “Effects of (S-)propranolol in a Binge Model of Cocaine Administration During Adolescence on Reducing Anxiety-Like Behaviors in Rats.” I have experience with experimental psychology and conducting research using the rodent model. Although I can effectively tutor psychology courses at the college level, I specialize in tutoring areas of psychology that overlap with biology (biopsychology). Given my background, training, and clinical experience I am confident I can meet your needs.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

Many of the students I have tutored have struggled with various learning disabilities, such as ADHD / ADD. I prefer the term “learning differences” as opposed to learning disabilities.” I try to identify (or have the student identify) what type of learner they are (visual, auditory, etc.) and employ different teaching strategies as well as methods of tutoring accordingly. I always encourage students to try to come to these conclusions themselves and guide them through the process of identifying what type of learning style works best for them, the study skills and methods that they benefit most from, etc., as this is an extremely beneficial skill for everyone, but specifically students with ADHD/ADD and learning disabilities benefit from because it is very important for students, especially in this specific population to be able to advocate for themselves. I am always willing to think outside the box and be creative to convey a concept when necessary. I am strong in my ability to re-phrase / reword topics in a way that the student can better understand or relate to their own life or interests. I have found this further engages the student as an active participant in their learning. I am extremely patient with all of my students, however I find this is an asset that is very useful when working with students who have ADHD/ADD or other learning disabilities. I am able to gently re-direct the student back to the task at hand should he or she become distracted. Although I have no formal certification or license in special education, I do have many years of experience working with students as a mentor and / or tutor with learning disabilities including ADHD / ADD. I was very successful in high school and college, and am a functioning adult. Many people would not know it, but I myself struggle with ADHD / ADD. Not only can I speak from experience I have gained through working with students who have ADHD / ADD or other learning disabilities, I can also speak from personal experience, as I have ADHD / ADD. In retrospect, I
