Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I fell in love with literature in college and have shared my passion with students in grades 7-12 over the past three years. I have found unique and engaging ways to encourage student-engagement with positive outcomes. Students have increased their personal levels of reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. I love watching students connect with literature. Once that connection is made, the possibilities are endless!
In college, I studied English literature with a focus on Shakespeare. During my teaching, I have taught rigorous curriculums on Lord of the Flies, The Great Gatsby, The Outsiders, Night, Seedfolks, Edgar Allan Poe, Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. With each curriculum, I have embedded vocabulary, grammar, writing and comprehension. I have also taught an Expository Writing course to high school seniors. With the writing course, I have helped students prepare for the SAT and college applications. Recently, I helped my students prepare for the Smarter Balanced Assessment through responding to text-based questions and writing timed performance tasks.
