Trinity College, Hartford CT (Educational Studies)
Central Conn State Univ (Master's)
My name is Mrs. B. I have been a teacher for almost ten years. I have taught Kindergarten, first and second grades in Hartford. I love to teach reading the most. I graduated from Trinity College in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Educational Studies and Psychology. In 2013, I graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Master's Degree in Remedial Reading and Language Arts. I am certified to be a reading teacher for students in grades K - 12.
Since I love teaching reading so much, I did a lot of training to become the best reading teacher I can. In 2008 I started attending seminars at Haskins Laboratory at Yale University. Just recently, I started a program to become certified as an Orton-Gillingham tutor. I have learned so much from my work at both Haskins and Orton-Gillingham. If you haven't heard of either, I definitely recommend you google them to learn more.
I am a mom of a little boy named Henry, and although he's not even two yet, he already loves to read! Even if you don't like reading now, I'm sure after we work together you will realize how fun reading can be!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified as an Orton-Gillingham tutor. The Orton-Gillingham approach is a scientifically-based, multi-sensory reading intervention that is ideal for students diagnosed with dyslexia. It was the first approach used to help struggling readers and has been around since the 1930's. The approach is individualized to meet the specific needs of the learner and tutoring sessions are 1:1.
I graduated with honors in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in both Educational Studies and Psychology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. While I was an undergraduate at Trinity, I also took courses at Saint Joseph's College (now The University of Saint Joseph) in West Hartford, CT to complete an elementary education (K-6) teacher certification. I have been teaching elementary education in Hartford, CT since January 2008. In 2013, I completed a master's program at Central Connecticut State University and am certified to teach remedial reading to students from K-12.
