I am an ESL/EFL, research, and college readiness / research skills tutor . I would like to help students with writing, speaking, listening, and reading. I am certified by the state of Connecticut to teach Adult Education ESL. I have previous experience working with with college students, English learners seeking to become college students, or workers. With ESL tutoring, I like to focus on "business English" or current events/news in my lessons. I can bring my own study materials or work with yours.
I love tutoring because it gives us a chance to work one on one together. I can work with men and women and would consider a small group if it were the right situation. Just in case you are wondering, I am not a fluent Spanish speaker.
An additional service I offer is COLLEGE READINESS TUTORING. I have worked with both undergraduate and graduate students in both vocational and academic programs. Many students out there simply don't know the mechanics of doing quality online research and getting set up to write a research paper. I may not be an expert in your subject area, but I can help you get organized, review drafts, and put together a final product.
I specialize in
- helping students get organized
- guiding them toward finding academic quality research materials
- citing research appropriately in their papers / projects
- working with the student on editing their drafts for clarity and grammar I am an ESL/EFL, research, and college readiness / research skills tutor . I am willing to consider a group rate for multiple students in one session.
Kevin taught me how to properly use citations, footnotes and the proper way to format a works-cited page. He also advised me on what certain topics need to be elaborated a bit more.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold Connecticut teaching certifications 088 and 107 for Adult Education ESL and Adult Education non-diploma programs (valid through 2020).
I have earned a Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English Speakers of Other Languages). I am state certified in teaching Adult ESL and Adult Non-Degree programs.
