Hi! I'm Tara, your English and flute tutor. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance. After a three year break from higher education, I recently started my Professional Performers Certificate at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
I have worked as an Instructional Assistant in high schools, and I was the "go to" person whenever a student needed help getting a research paper started, and then formatted properly. I also maintain a flute studio at The Rectory School in Pomfret, and my students love to practice! I love that AHA! moment when a student finally understands and makes the connection. Everybody learns a little bit differently, and I'll explain a concept different ways until it is understood. Usually, students only think something is "boring" because they don't understand it, and are uninspired to learn more. I make it my goal to change all that!
I have always loved literature, and took many literature classes in college. Furthermore, I have English tutoring experience on the high school level. I help students to organize their ideas into a cohesive format, and refine their writing style.
I have a BM in flute performance, and I have been teaching private lessons for several years. My students have said that they feel comfortable in their lessons, and are inspired to practice and create music outside of their lessons.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience tutoring high school students in English. In college, I took several courses in writing and literature. I am very passionate about the effective use of language, especially in an age where the written word is more widespread than ever.
I have a BM in Performance from the University of Connecticut, and currently attend the University of Massachusetts - Amherst as a Performance Certificate student. I have taught lessons for several years, and my students enjoy their lessons and do well in competitions. In addition to requiring my students to practice, I also assign relevant listening assignments to develop musicality and to inspire.
I have a BM in Performance from the University of Connecticut. In addition to the required music history classes, I have an interest in historical performance practices, and have performed internationally on period instruments. I also incorporate music history into the flute lessons I teach, since context makes everything make sense!
