About Theresa

Hello! My name is Theresa and I am a Connecticut certified English teacher. I have been teaching since 2012 in Connecticut public schools, and tutoring since 2008 through Literacy Volunteers and various public schools. My strengths include grammar, vocabulary, reading, literature, and writing. I am currently an English teacher and literacy interventionist.

My passion as an educator is to help children and adults succeed by acquiring the language skills they need to be ready for college, career, or other personal goals. Though I love teaching in the classroom, tutoring allows me to focus on and plan for those specific needs of my students. My students gain the individual attention they need and desire to develop, strengthen, and perfect their language skills. It's very rewarding to watch my students realize their potential!

My love of reading, writing, and sharing my knowledge of the English language with children and adults creates a perfect balance for tutoring.

My Bachelor's degree in English, coupled with my Master's degree in education, pending Master's degree in special education, Connecticut teaching certification, and experience teaching and tutoring all add up to appropriate and professional qualifications for tutoring you or your child.

I have a fairly flexible schedule. I am available after school, evenings, weekends, some school vacations, and even portions of the summer break. If you or your child are struggling with reading, writing, grammar, or any other aspects of the English language, please contact me for more information on my tutoring services.

I look forward to working with you or your child to create a brighter future!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have a B.S. in English from UCONN, an M.S. in Education from the University of Bridgeport, and a pending M.A. in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph.

I have been teaching English/Language Arts in Connecticut public schools since 2012, and tutoring basic English skills since 2008. My students have ranged from grade 6 to grade 12 and into adulthood.

I have a B.S. in English from UCONN, an M.S. in Education from the University of Bridgeport, and a pending M.A. in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph.

Phonics

I feel that I qualify as a tutor for phonics because phonics is a foundation to the English language which all readers and writers need. Phonics is part of the language arts curriculum, and is incorporated in my certification as an English teacher. Though I usually teach middle school and high school students who do not require further instruction in phonics, there have been occasions where there has been a need. I have also tutored non-English speaking adults who required instruction in phonics. I have a Bachelor's degree in English, and a Master's degree in education.

I am certified in English/Language Arts. I received my B.S. in English from the University of Connecticut, my M.S. in Education from the University of Bridgeport (CT), and will be receiving my M.A. in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph (CT).

Special Needs

I feel that I qualify as a tutor for Special Needs because I am currently enrolled in a graduate program concentrating on children with special needs of all types. Once my program is complete, I will hold a second Master's degree in special education, and will also apply for certification in special education. I am also a classroom teacher who has experience working with students with various special needs.
