My teaching experience dates back almost twenty years and I must say it is a job I enjoy doing the reason I still pursue more opportunities. I was initially trained to teach all subjects at elementary level then I narrowed down to English and Sign Language for High School teaching for my Bachelor of Education Degree. While pursuing my graduate school degrees, I focused on Administration and Supervision of Special Education Institutions and finally Teaching and Curriculum for Higher Education. My vast experience and qualifications help me understand and work with students from diverse settings.
I studied English during my four-year undergraduate course and I have taught and mentored students in the same for many years. I also have a strong command of written and spoken English.
I have two degrees in Special Needs education with experience of over 15 years working with students with special needs. My literacy in Sign Language gives me an edge above other people because I can communicate in signed and spoken language. I have also done elective courses on Human Rights Disability Law and Disability Law and Policy which helps me to better understand the students I will be working with.
I am an outgoing teacher who easily adjusts to new situations and I readily embrace diversity. I also have the capability to get myself to the level of the student helping me to understand the student better and support in whatever area the student requires guidance. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a teacher, I have learned what it takes to address people and maintain their attention. My involvement in both competing and training students in verse speaking has given me an understanding of what it takes to be a good public speaker. I have successfully worked on various assignments as a master of ceremony. While pursuing my graduate degrees, I have learned presentation skills which I have competently utilized during presentations.
