SCSU (English Elem Ed)
University of Saint Joseph College (Graduate Coursework)
I have been trained in creative and speech writing, participating in short story creation, speech creation, textual analysis, and writing formatting. I graduated with a double bachelor degree in both English and Elementary Ed with a minor in psychology from a local university.
I am currently employed as a certified elementary Ed teacher and have been teaching for eight years. I have been tutoring for four years and have worked with mostly accelerated and remedial students but welcome any ability level that needs my skill set. I am prepared to deliver content - rich, rigorous lessons that will improve your writing, reading, vocabulary, and speech skills. Let's get started!
Not only do I have the coursework to support my abilities, but I engage in English as a full time job with editing student work, teaching how to write, how to become an effective communicator, and engage in personal writing in my own free time as a pleasure activity. It is a passion and a skill.
I am currently employed in a highly competitive field that requires constant evaluation and review from my supervisors. I participate in professional
development both as required from my school and seeking experiences and topics I am interested in to pursue in my spare time. I use the latest technology, have a love for my students, provide consistent and effective feedback, use the CCSS as a guideline for all teaching l, and encourage my students to develop a lifelong love of learning. I have taught first, second, fourth grades, kindergarten, technology, and worked as a one on one literacy tutor in addition to long and short term subbing when I first started out.
Please consider high quality instruction with someone who is invested in your success and contact me with any questions or concerns about whether or not we would make a great team. I look forward to hearing from you. I have been trained in creative and speech writing, participating in short story creation, speech creation, textual analysis, and writing formatting. I previously charged $60 an hour for private tutoring but am interested in developing a strong client base and am reducing my rate to best meet realistic budgets.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been trained in CCSS use, assessment, and understanding by my district in PD and in my own academic research. I use CCSS in daily lesson planning with my team members and on my own for Tier 2 support and Tier 1 whole group instruction.
Completed college coursework, student teaching, field work experiences, and passed the Praxis I and II. Graduated in 2008 with a double bachelors as required by the institution. I carry a CT state certification In Elementary Ed under the 013 heading, K-6.
I have worked daily with SRBI approves methods of teaching phonics in first grade and kindergarten. I assess this knowledge in my students through oral, written, and reading responses. I have materials both for practice in writing and hands on practice available for use in tutoring immediately. I have also attended graduate level courses focusing specifically in the teaching of phonics.
