I'm a recently returned Peace Corps Volunteer who has spent the last two years teaching English as a foreign language at Guizhou Medical University in Southwest China. Prior to that I did after-school tutoring with 826LA.
I also taught creative writing to high school students for two summers in a row, at the Emma Willard School in Troy, NY, and Gettysburg College, respectively.
I have recently passed the HSK 3 test in Chinese and have two years of immersion in Chinese language. With my TEFL certification I know how to make language learning fun and interactive for students.
My GRE and SAT scores in writing and "verbal" are incomparable. SAT Writing I got an 800, Verbal a 750. GRE scores: Verbal--a perfect 170, Writing--4.5. I have an MFA in Creative Writing and love to read and write. Teaching in this area is truly the most fun for me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have lived in China for two years, recently got a 257 (excellent passing marks) on the HSK3, and received an intermediate-mid score for speaking Chinese from the Peace Corps. I am a certified TEFL instructor, so I have experience on the other side of language teaching, and I tutored at 826LA for a year prior to Peace Corps. I feel pretty solid in teaching early Mandarin.
