About Douglas

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. I have found that through consistent effort (discipline and persistence) students can achieve their potential. I started as a volunteer tutor for an elementary school student, and progressed to substitute teaching for several years at K-12 grades. I have worked as a Paraeducator for three years now at the middle school level. I have had great success helping students reach their potential.

I specialize in English, Social Studies, and Science for success in school and on the SAT. One of my goals for each student session is to keep the student challenged without feeling overwhelmed. I provide periodic assessments.

I never bill for a lesson unless the student or parent is completely satisfied. I do have a 24 cancellation policy but do my best to be flexible with time.

I look forward to hearing from you and assisting you with achieving success with your studies.

I have a BA in Communications from American University. I have extensive experience assisting students with writing essays, proofreading, and ensuring proper grammar.

I encourage students to contact me to learn more and to schedule lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I hold a BA in Communications (Journalism) from American University. I have been an educator in the public schools for four years. I have spent extensive time mentoring students with argumentative essay and composition writing.

Reading

I have been an educator in the public school system for four years now. Students I have taught range in age from six years old to 17 years old. I am also a State of Connecticut certified coach so I explain things in a clear manner. I am very patient and I hold students accountable for their work.

Writing

I hold a BA degree in Communications and currently assist middle school students with their writing on a daily basis.
