My name is Angela and I am a certified Special Education teacher. I have been teaching for the past 7 years and I LOVE it! Currently, I work in an intermediate school setting, running a resource room as well as co-teaching Mathematics, Language Arts and Reading. I have worked with students who have a wide range of diagnosis as well as those who do not necessarily have a diagnosis, but may struggle in different subject areas.
I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Sacred Heart University. I went on to earn my K-12 teaching certification and a Master's in Special Education from Central Connecticut State University.
I love to tutor and have been tutoring for the past 3 years. I enjoy working 1:1 with students, creating and collaborating on different methods to ensure they reach their full academic potential. I have tutored students at a variety of ages and in a variety subject areas; from high school seniors in English to sixth grade Mathematics to sophomore Biology.
As a Special Education teacher, I have received training in many different educational programs which include, but are not limited to, Touch Math, P.A.L.S., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, Reading Milestones and Visualizing and Verbalizing. I am also experienced working with Behavior Management Systems, establishing a token economy, TRAX and APEX.
I have experience working with students who may have a Specific Learning Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Autism, Speech and Language Impairments and ADD/ADHD. Also, I have worked with students, who have no diagnosis, may benefit from extra-practice or additional assistance. I like to be creative and come up with different ideas that would best suit the individuals learning styles!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified Special Education teacher and also holding a Master's in Special Education, my coursework has been specific to students who have been diagnosed with a disability. I have and currently work with/educate students who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Aspergers, Autism, Dyslexia, Emotional Disturbance, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments, etc.
As a teacher, I have attended numerous trainings on Common Core and implementing it in the classrooms; both my own and in my co-taught classes. Recently, I attending a training on both the Common Core and district-wide assessments, and how the two mesh with each other and the best way to prepare students.
As a Special Education teacher, I am certified in grades K-12 and have spent much of my career teaching all the different subject areas. At the present time, I co-teach Math, Language Arts and Reading (at the elementary level). In the past, I have co-taught Geometry, Biology and a Civics class at the High School level.
Currently, I teach a Reading class to elementary students. I have received training in the following Reading programs, Wilson, PALS, Orton-Gillingham, Visualizing and Verbalizing and Reading Milestones. Also, as a graduate student, I was required to take a Reading course for a semester, which was geared towards teaching reading and different programs.
I am a certified Special Education Teacher in the state of Connecticut. I have been working in this field for 7 years. I specialize in areas which include SLD, ED, ASD, LD.
