I completed a Masters Program, graduating June of 2016 with a Masters degree in Elementary Education, K-6. I student taught in downtown Hartford at a magnet school for 20 weeks, in 2016, in a Kindergarten class. Throughout my course work and student teaching, I was able to implement read-aloud and writing units for both Kindergarten classes in the school, conduct guided reading groups with students, complete math testing, design and implement station work for both literacy and math, attend professional development meetings for the district, implement lesson planning that incorporated the new Common Core Standards, and worked 1:1 with many students who continued to struggle with both math and reading at the current grade level.

I have taught 2nd grade at a private school in Hartford . The 2017-18 school year I have been filling in as a building substitute in Broad Brook, CT, having recently completed a long-term assignment as a Reading Intervention Specialist. In this role, I pulled individual students for extra reading support, using a program known as LLI, in hopes that it would help the students to move up to their current grade level in Reading and Writing.

What I love most about working with students is to see their individual growth. It is an exciting feeling to see a student who has gone from reading 5 sight words to 25 because you persistently worked with them daily to learn these words - or to practice skip counting by 5's with a student and see them grow and be able to complete this task on their own. It makes my heart grow with happiness. I love seeing the look on the students faces when they realize that they've accomplished and reached a new goal - and we high five each other because we are both so excited.

Teaching is about learning and growing. It involves helping students to achieve their highest potential and become the most successful that they can be. It is a heartwarming feeling, for me, to see students grow as learners and individuals and build the confidence to succeed in school.

I have always excelled in the Language Arts field. With student teaching in a magnet school that focuses on reading, I have created and implemented numerous reading and writing lesson plans as well as worked with a spectrum of students at varied reading levels to work on guided reading and writing activities. All of the lesson plans that I have created are Common Core and district aligned and have been approved by and reviewed with tenured teachers and professors at my University. Reading is everything - therefore, it is at the core of my being. To be able to do most anything in school or in our lives, we must be able to read. By working on phonics, phonemic awareness, blends, long and short vowels, students can really get a grasp for the English language.

With having just completed my Masters program and having Common Core new to many tenured teachers, I am coming into the field with Common Core being the norm. Any and all lessons that I've written are based on objectives of the Common Core Standards - and lessons are aligned to meet and/or exceed these standards. What I like about Common Core is that students can move or travel to a new school or state, and they will be learning the same information across the board.

I would love to work with any elementary level student on their reading and writing or math skills. I am currently awaiting my teaching license in the state of CT and have just completed an approved Masters program in Elementary Education. It would be my honor to help you reach your reading, writing or math goals - we can work together to formulate a plan that works best for you, so that we can meet and exceed your goals - and have you ready to go for the upcoming school year!

Common Core,

Common Core

In the Masters program in which I just completed, the lessons that we wrote were all based on the new Common Core Standards. Furthermore, since the state of CT has implemented the Common Core Standards, I have used these standards to design and implement lessons during my recent 20 weeks of student teaching Kindergarten. I have used the Common Core Standards as a basis for writing science, writing and math lessons - along with building literacy and math stations.
Phonics,

Phonics

In student teaching in a Kindergarten classroom, a big piece of our learning is phonics instruction. Each morning we work on phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principles - be it working on removing or replacing initial, medial or final sounds, focusing on long or short vowel sounds or learning about the magic "e" - phonics is an important way for students to learn to segment, blend, delete, isolate and manipulate sounds to form various words.
Reading,

Reading

My reading qualification include - varied leveled guided reading groups, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle work, lesson planning for read-aloud and writing units for entire Kindergarten team, development of literacy and math stations to support Common Core standards throughout my student teaching internship. In terms of state testing, I scored well-above the needed reading state level standards for teacher certification in the state of CT
