My name is Ron and I have enjoyed working with and learning arithmetic, mathematics and science all my life. My name is Ron and I have enjoyed working with and learning arithmetic, mathematics and science all my life. I will tutor from any one of the town libraries in Agawam, MA or East Windsor, Suffield, and/or Windsor Locks, CT. From when I was four years old helping my dad with home projects we built and flew radio-controlled balsa-wood airplanes, always fixed cars, repaired lawnmowers when needed – he was an engineer – and we were do-it-yourselfers so we worked on everything – we even built our own house. As a middle and high school student I spent hours in the reference section of our town’s library reading science and math books (reference texts that could not be checked out – there was no internet back then). I learned to design and build rockets and other types of projectiles and propulsion engines…which of course I built and flew. As a teenager math and science became a part of my daily life. I tutored students one-on-one while teaching at the university level and have tutored many elementary, middle and high school students (nieces, nephews, cousins and their friends) while they were working their way through those grades. This includes my own children, two of whom were Valedictorians of their respective graduating high school classes. I enjoyed math and science, but I enjoyed playing sports even more. One could say I started out as an athlete who attended classes so I could compete in sports. I was fortunate enough to do well in school while concentrating on being an athlete. I was able to get into a good college and earned an athletic scholarship to play football. While there I was able to develop further my profound joy of learning while tutoring and helping others (football players and other athletes) get through difficult math and engineering classes. I found I could be smart and play football.

I have always had an intense joy for learning – I am very enthusiastic and enjoy educating myself – and I can pass on this joy and enthusiasm to my students. And even if you don’t get the same joy and enthusiasm that I have, I can still show you how to learn and understand the material so you will do well in your classes. I believe it is more important to learn and understand fundamentals then trying to memorize a bunch of stuff.

I have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with minors in mathematics and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I taught for six years at the University level in three different schools (Georgia Tech, University of Penn and Western New England University – where I was always rated as an exceptional teacher by anonymous student surveys.) That means I have a whole lot of experience learning, using and understanding very difficult math. And this difficult math is all based upon knowing algebra, geometry, trigonometry and the other fundamentals of mathematics which I will teach you. I learn complex or difficult concepts by reducing the subject matter into the simplest terms and reduce difficult ideas into plain common language to the level where most any person can understand. That is how I learned; that is the way I teach. So no matter how complex the subject or complicated the procedure to solve a problem, by understanding the subject matter in small, simple steps removes the confusion and difficulty that can hamper the normal learning process. For me to know what is going on, I must break down the concepts into the simplest terms. That is what I do for my students. Make difficult mathematical concepts simple.

As a tutor I take pride in teaching to the level that the student is most comfortable to learn and understand the subject matter. Typically as the student gains confidence and becomes familiar with the course material, learning becomes easier and almost fun (for some this is actually true!). I have developed a relaxed teaching style and philosophy that has been successful for me and especially very successful for my students. I believe if you are willing to do the work, then I can help you learn, and more importantly, understand the subject matter of the course you are taking so that you will do well in your class. Please allow me the opportunity to help you learn and be successful in the classes you find difficult and/or challenging.

Good session

Ron is patient and helpful. We met at the local library. We reviewed calculus and he helped me grasp the concepts. He helped me understand my homework. I have to do a lot of practice on my own now, but I think he gave me a real start on understanding things.
