About Samantha

I am a music education student at Western Connecticut State University, with a focus on classical and jazz voice. Performance wise I have been a part of three opera and have participated in leading voice in jazz combos for two years. I have recently just completed my sophomore year and am getting closer to pursuing my dream of teaching music and having my own choir. In the past, I have worked with all different ages through theater camps and any volunteer vocal coach positions. Tutoring others has been a great opportunity of mine since high school all the way through college in areas even beyond music.

For my qualifications, as a student I have been taking private classical voice lessons for two years. Beyond this I have been given vocal training for about eight years total and continue to grow and encourage my students to always keep working on their voices. I specialize in classical and jazz voice, along with choral singing and beginner training for those just finding their voices. Collegiately I am a part of the music educational organizations of NAfME and ACDA and have taken extensive music theory, and sight singing/Aural (ear training), and keyboarding skills courses along with being a volunteer tutor to my colleagues. For the future, I am exciting to become an Academic Resource Mentor in my upcoming fall semester so I am further my tutoring skills to help any of my resident's needs.

Please contact me if you are interested in any vocal training or beginner ear, music theory or piano skills! It is never too late to start learning about your voice or what you can do with music, don't hesitate and give yourself the chance to discover your own talent.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Voice (Music)

In the field of vocal instruction I have been taking private collegiate voice lessons under the studio teacher Laura Mashburn for 2 years along with Margret Astrup the head of the vocal department at Western Connecticut State University.
I am a part of Western's Concert choir and Chamber Singers under the conductors of Cory Ganshow and Kevin J. Issacs. Also, I have performed in 3 of the opera productions and have participated in jazz combos for 3 semesters.
This year alone I received 3rd place in the NATS Connecticut Competition for Vocal Undergraduate Classical Women and continue to try to get my voice out there!
I belong to the American Choral Directors Association and participate in as many choral and voice workshops as I can to better my teaching skills, such as this years past CMEA conference in Hartford, CT.
I have been tutoring my own vocal student for about 5 years and have a range of students from 6-44 years old! I study classical and jazz voice along with choral works but the range of genre to explore on the voice is endless.
