About Catie

When becoming a teacher, it is easy to say, “I want to be a teacher because I love working with children”. To me, it is much more than that. I love seeing the light in their eyes when they are able to learn and pick up on something they didn’t know before. I love feeding the children with knowledge and information and being able to help and guide them in any way possible. I want to do more than just teach and work with children, I want to give them guidance and allow them to look up to me as a teacher and a confident. I take my work seriously and keep whoever I work with in mind.
I will be graduation Southern Connecticut State University in the Spring of 2016 with a degree in Comprehensive Special Education (K-12) with a high GPA and many semesters on Dean’s List. I am certified in the Foundations of Reading certification (090) as well as many years of experience of working with children, teaching children, and caring for children. Along with teaching and working with children, dance and movement has always been another one of my passions and I am willing to share that fun movement with all the children I work with in the future.

I have spent semesters in college working one-on-one with elementary students and helping them improve their English and Reading grades. I have the books and materials to assess the children and go on from there. I am also certified in Foundations of Reading (090).

I have spent a semester working one-on-one with a fourth grade student tutoring them in math to help improve their math grades.

I am free every day during the summer except for Sundays, which I spend with my family. In the Fall of 2015, I will be going to classes at Southern Connecticut State University on Mondays and Wednesdays, but free all other days.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

I have been a dancer (competitive) since the age of 3, and have won many scholarships and national titles for many years. Along with studio dancing, I was a dance team member all throughout high school and college. I also taught dance at my studio for over a year for ages 2-16.
