Hello and thank you for reading more about me!
My name is Marilyn and I moved to the United States from Colombia when I was 9 years old to pursue educational opportunities and a better quality of life. As a nine year old and a native Spanish speaker, I had to quickly assimilate to a new culture and learn a new language- So I identify with your struggle!
Although learning new subject matters was difficult at the beginning since I lacked the language skills, I never lost my passion for learning nor was I discouraged to continue my learning. Instead, even as a child, I quickly discovered that I loved reaching new boundaries, communicating with other non-Spanish speakers, learning about new cultures and exploring a new foreign country. I also quickly understood that the faster I learned the language, the quicker I would be able to learn about this new foreign world and I would be able to show the world the true colors of my personality. Finally when I mastered the English language and became fluent, my personality began to flourish and my passion for learning continued, and I was able to interact with other great individuals!
Education was always encouraged by parents, as they truly believed education and perseverance was the key to one's success--I truly believe this is true. As I began to navigate the schooling system, many acclaimed my performance for having won many high honor diplomas every school quarter and I became distinguished among my peers. In addition, this success continued in college and it still continues today within my professional career. My educational background includes a Master's in Human Resource Development and Organizational Management, a double degree in Political Science and Philosophy with concentrations in Italian and Legal Studies from Manhattanville College, and a Paralegal Degree from Pace University. I have also worked for prominent Law Firms in New York City, and I am now currently employed by a widely recognized and merited global company in the United States. My ultimate career goal is to eventually become a college professor and to teach about my area of expertise. Tutoring will allow me to continue to develop my teaching skills so that I can reach a diverse audience.
Why do I want to tutor/mentor you or your children, you may ask? The U.S was kind to welcome me here and It allow me to learn a new language and culture, and I would like to do the same. I want to offer my help to teach people Spanish and to learn about my own culture. I also want to tutor because I would like to teach others the skills I have been taught to successfully learn a new language and to succeed in a highly competitive environment. In addition, I have a passion for teaching others skills that I have acquired through my experiences and by serving others as a trusted advisor. While I attended college I was a mentor to Freshmen students and I guided them through their transition experience. I also served as their advisor and helped them build their time management, social, and personal skills. In addition, I tutored students who needed help in subjects such as Spanish, Philosophy and Political Science.
We learn new things every day and why not learn about things that we are passionate about! As Albert Einstein simply puts it, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough". Well, I understand the subjects I am teaching very well and if you hire me as your tutor/mentor I will share my knowledge and help you learn. I will help you develop or strengthen your Spanish language skills. I speak Spanish fluently since it is my native language and I am also proficient in Italian. I offer flexible rates, scheduling, and your choice of locations (preferably public and friendly learning places).
Contact me as I can help you achieve your learning goals. Education is important and I would love to be part of your learning experience! Hello and thank you for reading more about me!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
