About Susan

I am an expert teacher and tutor with over thirty years experience. I am certified as both a Learning Disability and reading specialist in both NY and CT. I am also certified to teach pre k-sixth grade in NY and pre K - eigth grade in CT. I love what I do and treat each child as an individual. As a learning disability and reading specialist, I know that each of us has our own learning style and I seek to use that style to help each individual reach his/her full potential. I believe in using the strengths of the students to improve the weaknesses.

I am trained in the common core and test prep and have bought up many of my below level students to at or above grade level in just a year's time.

I am Orton Gillingham and Wilson trained and gear all my tutoring to a student's specific needs. I am also a trained evaluator and am able to do any diagnostic test to determine a student's specific needs. That being said I also believe in working with the schools and talking to the student's teacher or teachers to find our what is happening at school and I am a firm believer in connecting both school and private tutoring.

I am an extremely patient and knowledgeable teacher and tutor and I am looking forward to working with you and your child.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
