Is your son or daughter struggling to keep up in their coursework? Are you tired of arguing over homework or exam grades?
I understand and I can help.
A student's college trajectory is being set as early as 7th and 8th grade. It is absolutely possible to make up for academic weaknesses later, but the sooner a student receives necessary support, the better his or her chances of gaining acceptance to their preferred college or university.
As your tutor, I will bring my 10 years of experience working one-on-one with students from middle school through college and 9 years of teaching experience at the university level. I specialize in subjects including: Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, all levels of math including AP Calculus, Exeter Math and Investigations Math and French language and literature.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in both Biochemistry and French, a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago and am a Doctoral Candidate in Science Education as well as an Adjunct Instructor at the college level.
While my degrees and experience give me to the tools make challenging subjects understandable, my patience and love of learning allow me to make them enjoyable!
If your child is struggling, don't wait. I have witnessed repeatedly the amazing transformation which can occur, both in the classroom and in the home, when a student receives the right support. Contact me to help your son or daughter achieve their goals and guide them toward a great educational future! Is your son or daughter struggling to keep up in their coursework? In prep for midterms I met with Anna to review some of my critical classes including precalc and chemistry. She was very knowledgable and provided additional problems to improve my knowledge.
Approached our first session all hands on deck and with a sense of urgency and positivity.
We are looking forward to having Anna again. She made a difference in my son's confidence and gave him some great organizational skills as well as review and explanation of course material. She was on time and very professional.
Anna helped me with college level biology and breaks topics down in simple terms for ease of understanding. She is a great instructor!
Anna is working with my son on his Pre-Calculus class . She has a very calming teaching style to help his work through his study guides for test. He has done so much better since we have met Anna.
My daughter had a very informative session; she felt that "everything made sense" chemistry-wise after her review session.
We highly recommend Anna!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience tutoring students in math ranges from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus, and includes Exeter Math, Investigations Math, ISEE preparation, SAT Math, ACT Math, preparing students for transition from standard math programs to accelerated math programs and temporary homeschooling (3 months) due to medical leave.
I adapt my teaching strategies to align with my students' learning styles to minimize frustration and maximize retention.
I have worked with students from 1st through 6th grade in mathematics and science, including preparing for the SSAT, the ISEE, transitioning between elementary schools, home-school instruction and Investigations Mathematics. When working with Elementary school students, I strive to support those skills which will serve them well in the middle- and high-school academics. To do this, I often prepare games and worksheets which help make learning and skills practice more entertaining. Elementary students often need more variety and, occasionally, a sense of play during instruction to remain fully engaged. I enjoy working with younger students and helping to set them on a positive academic trajectory!
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Science Education so I have a solid foundation in best practices in teaching and learning, in general. I have also worked extensively with students in study skills as those skills pertain to math and science (my main areas of expertise). Having worked with students from 6th through 12th grade, I am aware that good study skills, such as organizing work, planning ahead, breaking tasks down into smaller pieces and communicating effectively with teachers, are crucial components of a child's academic success. These skills can be taught as stand-alone skills (across all subjects) or incorporated into any given subject. These habits, once formed, benefit a child in high school, college and beyond.
