About Robert

Hello All!

My name is Robert, but you can call me Bob or Bobby. I currently work as VP of Data Management for GE in Stamford, CT. However, my dream job is to become an Actuary, and I spend some of my free time studying to pass the exams required to become one.

What is an Actuary you ask? Basically, an Actuary is a person who evaluates the likelihood of future events using numbers. Actuaries also design creative ways to reduce the likelihood and decrease the financial impact of undesirable events.

My lifelong passion for mathematics led me to my decision to pursue a career as an Actuary. Although I graduated from LaSalle University with a degree in Business, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do while in school. What I was sure of was that I wanted to be successful, make great money, and love what I do. It also didn’t hurt that there were (and still are) numerous articles declaring Actuary as one of the best jobs in the United States.

To attain Associateship, there are 5 preliminary exams one must pass. I already have 1 under my belt, passing FM/2. I am currently studying for Exam P/1. I came within 1 point of passing it the first time around, so I’m retaking it again in very soon. It will be a long, difficult journey for sure, but it will all be worth it in the end!

I feel like I have a great deal of experience regarding P/1 and FM/2. I also have a wealth of experience in other areas of math. Here’s a little more about me:

I excelled in mathematics in high school, receiving honors in all math subjects including AP Calculus, which I took my senior year. I also graduated in the top 10% of my class.

At LaSalle University, I took a Calculus course at night. Most of the students in my class were older adults who worked during the day. They were taking the course because it was a requirement for their respective majors. Many struggled. So, using my negotiating skills, I spoke with my professor about assisting those who had problems, and in turn, I’d be exempt from homework. He complied. My tutoring life had begun!

Since then, I have tutored many students. From tutoring Algebra 2 to a high school freshman to teaching Calculus to a 60 year old Peruvian woman who was taking college courses - all of whom showed significant improvement and were delighted with my tutoring techniques, passion for math, and lively attitude.

If you’d like me to tutor you, I request that you give me a short time to review the area of math where you need help, just to brush up. Once we meet, I’ll attempt to break down problems into its simplest form or even use real-world examples to make the material more logical.

Thank you!

“The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.”

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
