I am a certified K-6 teacher with 7 years of middle school teaching experience in both science and English. I also spent a year as an intern in a public elementary school working with every grade level as well as teaching summer school to incoming 4th graders.
My greatest accomplishment is teaching students to enjoy reading. I can assist your child in any subject from elementary school through 8th grade with an emphasis on reading and writing skills. My teaching style is interactive and dynamic. Whether assisting with a specific project or long-term learning goals, I am confident I can help your child with the skills and strategies needed for success. Jill is a wonderful teacher and tutor. She understands my son (11 years old), who has some learning issues as well as having dealt with loss. Jill is patient, smart, understanding, kind and firm. She reaches the "whole child."
My son has worked with other tutors but Jill has the perfect combination of experience, personality and knowledge to bring out the best in him. She is accessible by phone, email and text and always prompt. She has willingly adjusted schedules as needed to account for my work and my son's activities. I unconditionally recommend her as a tutor.
February 2014 -- Jill continues to work with my son, and continues to be an excellent tutor. She has helped him transition to a new school this year. We are completely satisfied and continue to recommend Jill!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
I hold a professional level teaching certification from the State of Connecticut.
I have spent 7 years teaching science and language arts in the 6th grade as well as a year in a public elementary school interning across all grade levels.
I have successfully taught summer school as well for students from age 8 through 14.
Although my primary subject is science, I have spent several years teaching summer school math and math intervention. This has allowed me to perfect strategies that are proven and fun. I have any number of games to ensure we are learning and maximizing our time together. One game is so engaging that a 9 yr old client completed 2,000 problems, voluntarily, in a two week period. Repetition is necessary to be successful in cementing math skills at the elementary age.
