University of Notre Dame (Architecture)
I am ready to help you or your child excel in a variety of subjects! I graduated two years ago from the University of Notre Dame's School of Architecture at the top of my class. Though I have the most experience tutoring math, I was an all-around good student in both high school and college and am comfortable teaching in many areas.
I am an intern architect. I work for an architecture firm in New Canaan and am working toward my professional license. I am a passionate and conscientious worker, detail-oriented and careful. I bring the same enthusiasm and level of service to my tutoring.
I find that the best way to tutor is to explain to the students the why of what they are trying to learn. I think that when students lose sight of the big picture and try instead to memorize lists of rules or dates or formulas, they become disinterested, and as a result, they learn less and do not perform as well. Even in college courses, I see students whose grades slide because their teacher is doing nothing to inspire them.
I promise that I will be an enthusiastic tutor for you or your child, and I will try my best to make learning engaging again. I hope that you will contact me if you are interested. Thank you! Howard was very professional and offered a 30 minute trial to make sure he was a good fit for my son. We are very pleased with him and hope to continue to use him in the future for Algebra.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with AutoCAD for five years, first in architecture school and now in my architecture career. I use CAD on a daily basis to create designs and produce complete construction documents. I can provide numerous examples of my completed work.
I spent over a year tutoring students in New York State, in various Regents level courses, including algebra, geometry, algebra II/trigonometry, biology and chemistry. I also went to high school in New York State, so I am very familiar the Regents format and process. My Regents students were quite successful - one student who I worked with had grades in the 50s and 60s third quarter, but managed to score in the high 80s on the final Regents exam after working with me.
