Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Speech

I have retired from working over 30 years in the school setting as a Speech/Language Pathologist but my passion for doing what I so enjoy continues; helping others become intelligible and successful speakers. My experience includes articulation therapy, accent reduction, and conversation/social skills.

Many children do not qualify for speech therapy in schools because the difficulty does not negatively impact their academic success or students choose not receive services in school because of the Special Education stigma or a packed schedule. This is unfortunate because so often students face social and self-esteem issues because of minor speech problems. I am on this site to reach out to these students and also to adults who want to improve the quality of their speech and build their communication confidence.

I have an upbeat and positive approach to tasks. The resources that I use for speech therapy is a combination of auditory, visual, technology based (computer software programs, iPad Apps, hearing devices), materials designed by me, published articulation materials or a students academic materials. I also incorporate oral motor exercises when appropriate and have PROMPT training.
