Amy does a great job tutoring our two kids. She did an initial math assessment since my kids are homeschooled. She was then able to see where they were at and has been doing a great job teaching and explaining. She's a great tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a great deal of experience working with students diagnosed with ADD and ADHD at the middle school level. I have implemented many strategies to increase focusing and organization. Just recently, my own daughter, age 9, was diagnosed with ADHD. As a tutor, I can provide one-to-one attention to a student's weak areas and implement strategies that will assist the student in learning. I am comfortable with and I have experience with students who have ADD/ADHD and have every confidence that learning can be very successful.

I am a special education teacher and I have twenty-five years experience at the secondary level. In the past three years, I have coached two college students for their Praxis I math exams. Both students passed the first time, which is no easy feat. I am capable and ready to tutor students in their test preparation for the Praxis I math exam. I am fully literate in the math topics and concepts involved in the Praxis I math test including Geometry and Measurement, Algebra and Number Operations. I know that I would be a great tutor in the area of the Praxis I math exam due to my experience and my current certifications on the Wyzant.com website.
Good afternoon potential students,
Did you know that most people prefer not to speak in front of an audience? Many physical stressors occur when people encounter the idea of speaking to others in a public setting. Symptoms such as hands sweating, hearts pumping and ideas erasing from people's minds cause many to choose to sit in silence. I have coached many students in public middle and high schools who had difficulty sharing their views with others.
By offering pointers such as writing small bits of information down on notecards to read from during the presentation, utilizing a poster that shows many visual aspects of the content of your presentation and by reviewing videotapes of practice sessions, these students transitioned to more comfortable public speakers. I am looking forward to helping you as you share your ideas and comments in public!
Reading is a journey that can take you places you've never even dreamed! I am dedicated to working with you on all the aspects of reading that you personally need to succeed in school and as a life-long learner.
Within my role as a special education teacher, I maintained a study skills class that consisted of binder organization, note taking, learning how to prioritize assignments, breaking down long-term assignments into shorter tasks, utilizing subject folders, highlighting key information in each class and building a note card file. Many students found success from this class.
