Hello, I am Carleton. I graduated from university with a double major in Mathematics and Economics. I took enough math courses to nearly graduated with a Masters in that subject. So I really know my math. Throughout school (elementary to university) I liked math and was very good at it. Not only was I able to do the steps to solve the problems, but also comprehend the important principles. Consequently, if a problem has an unexpected twist, that twist did not frustrate me to correctly solving the problem.

After university and a time with the US Navy, I sought for a job that would utilize my math knowledge. Therefore I became an Actuary. An Actuary is a business professional that utilizes mathematics to describe and solve business problems. I passed the examinations and was certified as a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. I worked in this profession for 30 years and now am retired.

At school, since I was so good at math, teachers would both give me more in-depth material and ask me to assist other fellow students. I did this tutoring both in and out of school and consequently earned some additional spending money. After becoming and Actuary and finished with my exams, I was fortunate enough to work with companies that where involved in their communities. They had some community programs where students would come to the company to have help in their subjects. Through these programs I helped many students over many years with various math subjects. Also beginning in 2016 - 2017 school year, I tutored a high school student with Geometry.

What makes me an effective math tutor? I suppose first my love and knowledge of math. Second my experience of helping many types of students throughout many years. This has given me the ability to individualize my teaching style to address each student's particular need and style of learning. I have found with helping others with math that it is important not only to know the steps to solve the problems, but more so to comprehend the principles involved. Knowing the principles promotes the long term retention of math and as I would say it "cements the knowledge in the brain". I also have developed patience and perseverance in presenting mathematical concepts to students in various ways.

So if you need help, or really want to know math to solve problems by knowing why things are done, then I the tutor for you. I keep notes on every student I help so I can examine how best to help each one. I also possess creativity to address particularly areas that are giving the student difficulties, so to facilitate their understanding.

So contact me and get on the path of knowing math and not just doing it.
