My passion is history in all forms. If I have a conversation with a person of over 10 minutes I add a bit of history into the conversation. I was told that I made history come alive and even the students who did not like history liked my class. I encourage students to use many sources in their quest to learn history.
In teaching history I had students write most of their answers in essay form. I gave an example of a very plain essay answer and we would turn it into a descriptive essay that could make you cry. In my state the style of essays I would require would match what the state of Connecticut wanted for that grade level. Writing in the content area empowered my students to go up at least 2 points on the next mastery test in writing.
I have always lived where I have known people who were not native speaking of English. I find talking to people like this very interesting. In my teaching career I had students come into my classroom with no English language skills. In most cases they were speaking English in six weeks. I would get materials from the lower grade teachers and use them to teacher these students. I had other students that were eager to help these students and they were used to help theses students. In teaching my adult ESL students I used similar items, but I tailored their program to their current need. It could have been filling out a job application or helping fill out government forms. It was always a priority to be sensitive to the needs of the students. As an American I see \helping other people to become Americans as a wonderful gift.
In the State of Connecticut I am certified to teach K-8 all subjects, Social Studies 7-12, Adult GED, and Adult Education. I taught adult students for the GED program a number of years ago. I set up a local volunteer program that taught English to immigrants . At that time we had an influx of Russian immigrants to this community. There were classes of different levels and we also had a citizenship class. We helped people with their White card, Green card and other immigration needs. I worked six years as a Therapeutic Mentor. In this program I worked with young people who had a variety of social, emotional and learning problems. I have always been told I pick up on a person special needs, and working in this program reinforced my gift.
I have been described as a nurturing affirming teacher who is very sensitive to my students. I bring energy to what ever I do. I am creative and have a strong knowledge of standards. I love to teach! When I teach I feel alive ! My passion is history in all forms. If I have a conversation with a person of over 10 minutes I add a bit of history into the conversation. I was told that I made history come alive and even the students who did not like history liked my class. I encourage students to use many sources in their quest to learn history.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to teach this level in the state of Connecticut. I taught about 24 years grades four and five. I taught four years in grades, 6, 7, 9.
When I taught in the classroom I had a few students who came in the room with not speaking any English. In about six weeks they were speaking English. I ran a local ESL program for adults for about 3 years. This program worked with adult Russians. I have worked with people whose first languages have been Japanese, Ukrainian, Spanish, Russian, Polish and Turkish. Most of my students have been at the beginning or moderate range. I work with one person who speaks English very well, but I help him with slang.
I am an active reader of the Bible. I went to a Christian College, where we were required to take classes in religion. I have on my own read many books about other religions. This is a strong personal interest
