For over five years my passion and privilege is to develop students reading and writing skills. I collaborate with my students to gain an understanding about what works best for them in the learning process. This includes letting them make choices about what we read and write about. Over the years I have seen reluctant students overcome barriers and become enthusiastic readers and writers. Witnessing the development of learning and skills are the most exciting and rewarding aspect of tutoring.
Working with students both in a school environment and privately, I teach reading skills, reading comprehension, writing and grammar/spelling conventions. I work with students from kindergarten to high school. In addition, I teach students how to get organized, study, develop critical thinking skills and discover how they learn as individuals.
I am a certified Wilson Language Reading Tutor and have worked with many students who have gone on to become competent and confident readers.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My education include a BS in psychology and MS in counseling. I am Wilson certified and have a copy of my certification. In addition, I have attended a 3 hour Barton Training Program. Finally I have worked with dyslexic students over a five year period and 4 of them have completed the Wilson Language Training and have gone on to become successful readers and writers.
