Central Connecticut State University (Communications)
Hello! My name is Jessica and I am currently enrolled at Central Connecticut State University. I am really excited you are considering me to help you. I know how it feels to just need some extra help in school and I believe that I am the right person for you. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my background.
Well I once was an education major, but recently switched. I had the amazing opportunity of being employed in the Farmington School Systems for a school year. I was mainly in a preschool classroom, but I was able to move throughout the public schools and work with children up through fourth grade. I wasn't a head classroom teacher, but I was more like an in class tutor. I worked in the classrooms and aided the teacher in helping the students. This gave me a lot of insight of how to help students.
As I mentioned before, I was once an education major, and I took many different education courses. One of the most interesting was titled Education in America. I was able to learn about the diversity of students and challenges many students face in today's education system. This knowledge really helps me connect with students, because I am able to adapt to their different problems and still help them get where they need to be academically.
One of my favorite things about tutoring is what I learn from the students I encounter. They don't realize that they are teaching me, while I am teaching them. Not every student is alike, and understanding that is important to helping students. There are many limitations a head classroom teacher has in today's education system, and unfortunately sometimes a teacher's style doesn't match the needs of a student. That's where I come in. I take the time to get to know the student and how he or she learns, and I find what they're not understanding and help them succeed in a way that works for them personally. Seeing them finally get something and seeing how excited they get is the biggest reward.
I am currently in college as a Communications major, but I am an English Literature minor. I have skills in reading, comprehension, paper writing, MLA format, grammar and test prep. I have taken a variety of different literature courses such as Shakespeare, Pre-Civil War, British Literature and Early American Literature. I have also taken a Public Speaking course and can give great insight on writing a speech, organizing and actually giving the speech.
I have been in Elementary classrooms and have worked under head classroom teachers. With this experience I have learned how they teach certain areas and the techniques they use. I can use the things they taught me along with my own style to make a personalized experience for every student.
I have experience writing, planning, filming and editing video pieces such as commercials, news segments, interviews and music videos. I am proficient with editing softwares such as Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.
I know that feeling when you don't understand something in school. I have been there myself. But what got me through was my tutors. Everyone has a weakness and it's not something to be ashamed of. It just means you have to work a little harder to get there. But trust me the hard work will pay off. Contact me if you need any help and I will do anything in my power to help you do better. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in a preschool classroom in the Farmington School Systems for a school year, and directly worked with children learning to write. I also worked in classrooms up through fourth grade when they were working on their handwriting. I was able to help children at all different skill levels learn to write, or improve their penmanship.
