Longer sessions will be $60 for 90 minute lessons, and $75 for two hours. For every five additional miles outside my twenty-mile radius, I charge an additional $5 to cover travel.
Heidi was fantastic!!! She's very dedicated: my son was previously failing and ended up with a B!! She was an excellent teacher and knew the material as well as the professor did.
We meet in the park close to a library, where we seek shelter should it rain or get too windy. It's nice outside, the lessons feels "lighter." Heidi picked the spot. Nice choice!
I've never been able to fully grasp the way verbs are treated in Spanish. With my study and Heidi's help, I feel I have a firm grasp of about 50% of what I need to know. I am anxious to get to 100%, and happy to be learning that tricky part of Spanish: grammar.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience as a ESL volunteer tutor, having tutored Spanish speakers in an adult education program, as well as practicing conversational and career-related English with a Bosnian woman in her home. In my training as a language teacher, I have also taken several language acquisition classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including a TESOL class which covered methods and issues relevant to ELL students. I currently assist a elementary-aged Syrian student once weekly as part of my current job. I am a native English speaker and placed in the 98th percentile on the verbal portion of the GRE. My lessons and activities are practical, conversational, and tailored to the goals and needs of the student.
I am a teacher with Connecticut certification for both Spanish and Social Studies. I am currently in my seventh year of teaching Spanish at a middle school, and recently completed my Master's degree in Spanish at the University of Connecticut. In addition to this experience, I have tutored Spanish for children as young as 7 years old, and did my student teaching in a high school, where I taught Spanish levels II, III and V (AP college prep).
