About Elizabeth

Hello

My name is Liz and I hope to be your new Chinese Tutor. I graduated from the University of Vermont last May with a double major in Chinese and Japanese. Since then I have been traveling around China, Thailand, and around the US doing small jobs and having some fun since then. I love to travel, which is one of the biggest reasons i decided to learn Chinese. With Chinese you can open so many doors and gain so much work and life experience!

I started learning and traveling to China when I was 15 years old and have gone just about every year ever since! One of the best feelings in the world is that first time I realized I haven't used my language dictionary all day. You get a sense of pride in yourself that you're really grasping the language, and that is what I would love to be able to give to my students. Not just that you're learning Chinese, but I also want to give my students the confidence to go out ad use their language and talk to that Chinese woman you see everyday on the train and always wanted to say hi to. That feeling is one of the best in the world, as the student learning, as well as the young woman getting a piece of her home from someone unexpected.

I have lived in China quite a few times, starting when I was just 15 years old. During college I spent 8 months living in Kunming, China taking classes from the language to China American economics. Having lived in China so many times, I really understand the Chinese culture as well as the language.

I am really looking forward to being able to teach new students and learn a it about you as well! Please contact me with any questions! Thank you

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

The first time I went to China was when I was 15 years old. My parents sent me over because I had been asking for about 2 years before that. I wet to the University of Vermont for Chinese and Japanese and in my junior year I studied abroad in Kunming, China. I completed all my language classes at UVM, as well as Ancient Chinese, which was one of my favorite classes. All of my Chinese classes were done fully in Chinese, and my ancient Chinese class was translation from modern Chinese to ancient Chinese and vice versa.

While living in China I tutored three Chinese middle-schoolers in the English language and culture. When returned to UVM I took on a Chinese exchange student and helped her with her classes and getting used to american culture. It was an extremely fun and rewarding experience that I hope to continue in the future.

Each time I have gone to China, I have learned something new. The first time I went I learned the basic language and culture. The second and third time I went, I learned a lot more about the Chinese language, as well as the history. I went to a lot more areas of China and learned about what was there now, what was there years before, and what could be here years later. The last few times I went to China for school and work, I learned more about Chinese economics, and business language. No mater how many times I go to China I will continue to learn more, and I cannot wait for the chance to give someone else my same sense of excitement.
