In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have instructed the Algebra 1 curriculum for more than 300 students over the past 10 years, and am on the Algebra Curriculum Data Team at Shelton High School.
I have tutored Algebra 2 for the past five years. My role at a High School has precertified me as a highly-qualified educator. I've also taught courses that come before and after Algebra 2, ensuring that I am aware of the needs on both ends of instruction.
I have taught Geometry to all levels from basic to honors at High School. I have also tutored this course independently to students who required extra help, as well as those who were home-bound due to a variety of reasons. The skills required in Geometry are abstract and therefore more difficult for many math students to process - it requires a tutor who possesses the experience and patience to address different learning styles and offer alternate methods.
