About Alexandria

I recently graduated college. I actually just moved to Connecticut from Wisconsin for a job as an electrical engineer with EB. Throughout school I was a part-time nanny with a variety of ages. My favorite part of the job (though it never felt like a job) was seeing kids understand something that they didn't before.

I loved being part of that process. I know there were some subjects that were very tricky for me, and spending just an hour with someone who understood the subject was a huge help. It made me more confident and happy, let alone improved my grades. I hope I can help you by taking the time to break things down, be patient and work through tough subjects!

I graduated college this past spring with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. I have taken a lot of math, science and engineering courses. Some were easier and some were extremely difficult for me. I also was on the rowing team for the first two years of college. Holding a leadership role on a D1 sports team was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I had to learn time management, work with a lot of different people to achieve a similar goal, but most of all, I had to learn how to study efficiently because I had limited free time. I know what it takes to balance all the extra-curricula's you may be juggling in high school or college.

One of the resources I had was the athletic tutoring center available for athletes. I also tutored introductory college-level math once I completed those subjects. Having that resource and then being able to be a resource for others was a great experience. Everyone learns different concepts at a different pace and that is the main lesson I learned while tutoring at the center.

A lot of class time isn't devoted to helping you through problems. Most classes are either lecture-based or the homework is simply assigned without much instruction. Problem-solving is a skill that is vital to any course, including any college entry tests. It's also the main skill I use at my job now. My approach is to allow you to figure out how to solve the problem on your own. With some hints and guidance, and definitely some reassurance, I believe I have a really positive and motivating tutoring style.

These are some of the subjects I tutor:
ACT Math, ACT Science, ACT Reading (I received a 30 on my ACT, so much of this exam is test strategy)
SAT Math, SAT Science, SAT Reading, SAT Writing
Calculus (I have a 3.7 GPA in all calculus courses), Algebra, Differential Equations
Biology, Heat transfer, Fluid dynamics, Thermodynamics
Material Science, Statics, Dynamics, Mechanical Design

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison and have tutored many students in this level of math as well as knowledge of the test taking strategies necessary to succeed on this standardized test.

Algebra 2

I have taken all algebra courses and have had courses mixing in calculus concepts as well. I continue to use fundamentals I have learned in these courses and have worked in many groups to further their understanding of Algebra 2. There are many tricks and rules of thumb I have learned and teach others. Some of these things are not taught in the classroom but are very helpful!

Calculus

I have taken AP Calculus as well as all calculus courses in college at UW Madison. My calculus GPA was 3.9

Physics

I took both AP Physics and Calculus in high school as well as high level courses in college. I was an athlete while taking these courses and understand how time-consuming these courses can be.

Precalculus

I took precalculus as a junior in high school before taking 3 AP classes my senior year (Calculus, Physics, and English). I have completed all calculus course at the University of Wisconsin Madison with a GPA of 3.9. I have also tutored at college-level for Calculus I.

SAT Math

I have taken the SAT and ACT each twice and am familiar with the current grading and structure of the exam. I have also taken the SAT subject tests in Language, Literature, French, Calculus, Physics and Biology
