I am a certified English teacher and have experience teaching 8th- 12th grade. I graduated from Union College with a double major in English and American History. I also have my Masters of Arts in Teaching. I have been teaching English/ Language Arts for six years and absolutely love what I do! Before moving to Connecticut in 2010, I tutored students in the Albany area where I was teaching at the time.
I love that tutoring provides the opportunity to help students develop confidence in their abilities without added peer pressure. Students are more likely to take academic risks when they are more relaxed and in a comfortable environment. In addition, the freedom to choose topics that students are truly invested in increases their engagement and excitement for reading and writing, especially if that is an area of weakness or avoidance.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
