Hello and thank you for stopping by my profile! My name is Kurt and I hope I can help you as you navigate the demands of academia. I am passionate about young people and education and have dedicated myself to serving both. My goal is for or time together to be encouraging, helpful and, ultimately, temporary. Students will not only be scaffolded for a particular assignment, project or test prep, but we will establish self-efficacy and study skills, as well.
More about myself: I am a certified secondary Social Studies teacher who is new to Connecticut and between teaching positions. I studied history at MSU Denver and gained teaching experience within Denver Public Schools and Jefferson Co. Public Schools. I have a particular interest in helping students get back on track academically as I tutored at-risk urban students during college and spent last summer teaching Government, Economics and US History to students who were taking a mulligan on their first shot at those courses. My students have experienced marked improvements in literacy skills, writing and critical thinking.
I look forward to helping you get on the right path (or if you're already there, strengthening your position). But before you contact me or any other tutor, I implore you to communicate any difficulties you may be having with your teacher(s) (I promise they want to help!).
I have 21 undergraduate credits in English and Language Arts (Composition, Literature, Communication), am an avid reader and have a degree in a discipline that is heavily dependent on writing and reading.
I hold a BA in History (Concentration in Secondary Education) and am commencing my MA History studies this Summer. I have a year of experience teaching across the Social Studies curriculum and am eager to continue teaching the students and discipline I am passionate about.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions and to see if I can assist you. I respect your privacy and rights under FERPA and IDEA, but in order to help you best, I need to know as many details about your situation as possible (current grade(s); IEP, 504 and accommodations; personal goals for our time). Any information disclosed or ascertained about students remains confidential. Hello and thank you for stopping by my profile! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught at high school level.
