About Eric

I have a degree in English and Speech from Westminster College. I have published several books and I read, too; in fact, I have a home library of 2,000-plus volumes. But I have REALLY learned the tutoring trade by writing. I have also won an Emmy for writing television news commentary.

For two and a half years I was the principal writing tutor at a Westport, Connecticut firm. My specialty was working with high school students on their college application essays, but I also did a great deal of work in general writing skills, such as helping students with term papers.

What makes me so effective a tutor is a combination of my passion for writing and the stimulation i receive from spending time in the company of bright young men and women who are eager to learn. It doesn't matter what your career is; more than likely, you'll have to write in order to succeed: memos, emails to staff, speeches, annual reports, letters to clients, job applications, employee reviews, and more. The better you write, the more likely you are to get ahead.

Writing, I like to say, is thinking made visible. It is genuinely a thrill for me to "see" students think better, more clearly and perceptively, as we work together to bring out your full potential.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have read literally thousands of books in my life and at present have a home library comprised of 2,000 volumes, all of which I have read.

I began writing professionally, for a newspaper, during my college summers, and have written professionally ever since, as a television journalist for several years after my print days.

My penultimate book was named one of the best books of 2015. Two of my earlier books were named the "Best of the Best" by the American Library Association.
