About Annalisa

The goal of my teaching is the growth of the whole child through the study of music. Over the centuries music study has been used to develop character and intellect. Recent studies show that children studying an instrument score FAR higher in abstract reasoning skills, a tool which they can use to advantage for the rest of their lives. Since the process of mastering an instrument necessarily takes place over years it teaches students the value of persistence and gives them a taste of its rewards. They also learn to play remarkably well.

After many years of teaching (over 30) I have developed my own version of the Suzuki Method for children under the age of 9. Once the children are 10, a traditional classical guitar method is offered. With daily practice in this method they learn to read sheet music and soon find that their musical skills are so strong that all kinds of music are accessible to them and give them real pleasure. Playing an instrument yields many lasting advantages. It is a wonderful investment in a child's future. And it is good for the soul.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
