About Dylan

I am a recent Honors graduate from Alfred University, a small liberal arts school in upstate New York. I studied English (Creative Writing focus) with a minor in Political Science. In college, I was the Editor-In-Chief of the school newspaper and a Writing Center tutor. At Alfred, I won a number of writing and public speaking awards that represent my dedication to the craft. In the summer of 2013, I interned at The Stamford Times in Connecticut and I was a part-time copy editor for a video game magazine. I have a great deal of experience writing and editing, and my approach centers around helping the student become a better writer, rather than just trying to boost their essay grade. I can help with all elements of the craft, whether it's grammar/punctuation, thesis, citation format, organization, and so on. I can also help with proofreading and creative pieces.

Most of all, I do my best to make sure the student enjoys the writing process. It's one of the most important skills you to develop in your education, so why not try to have fun with it?

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I graduated from Alfred University with Honors in English this past May. I was employed as a Writing Center tutor at Alfred University, and I have interned at various magazines and newspapers as an editor and writer. I also interned at a middle school in a 7th-grade English class, so I have experience teaching writing and English to younger students.

Grammar

I was an English Major in college and a Writing Center tutor for three years. I have also interned as a copy-editor at a magazine and as a part-time journalist at a local newspaper.

Literature

I graduated with Honors in English from Alfred University, and I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International Honors English Society. I have studied American Literature, British Literature, Modernism, Classic Greek and Roman Literature, and Shakespeare.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have designed and presented a large number of presentations using PowerPoint. Through my employer, I have received online training in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.

Microsoft Word

I am currently an employee at Crius Energy, LCC (Stamford, CT) in the compliance department, and much of the job involves using Microsoft Word to write responses, documents, and draw up presentations. I use the program every day extensively.

Political Science

I have a minor in Political Science from Alfred University, and I am a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, which only accepts students who have completed at least ten semester-credits of work in Political Science, including at least one upper-division course, with an average grade of B or higher in those courses. I have taken a wide range of courses on national and international politics, and I plan to pursue a graduate degree in Political Science.

Proofreading

I was the Editor-In-Chief of the school newspaper at Alfred University, where I had to personally line edit each article in every issue for grammar, style, clarity, and punctuation. I also interned as a copy editor for a video game magazine during the summer of 2013.

Writing

I studied English with a focus in Creative Writing at Alfred University, so I have a strong grasp on both creative and analytic writing. I was a part-time journalist for the Stamford Times and Editor-In-Chief of Alfred University's school newspaper, and both positions require strong writing skills. I have won a number of writing awards and distinctions. I was also a Writing Center tutor, and I have experience teaching various aspects of the craft, from grammar/punctuation to style and clarity.
