I am a highly experienced ESL, Italian and writing teacher, with past success teaching middle school, high school, and adult learners. My expertise in English as a Second Language includes teaching speaking, grammar, writing, reading and accent reduction for all ages. My strength in teaching English to non-native speakers is driven by my friendly, yet goal-oriented, approach which addresses key student issues of anxiety and nervousness about speaking in a foreign language. As a fluent Italian teacher, I understand how to best guide students in this beautiful language with ease and confidence. Not only do I teach through conversation, but I emphasize grammar and Italian writing throughout the learning process. Working to acquire fluency engages and motivates my students to go beyond their expectations. My English writing instruction includes a step-by-step approach ranging from brainstorming topics to outlining structure of essays to rough draft and final editing. Using this method, I am able to draw out student ideas and knowledge in a way that is both nurturing and goal-oriented. My students leave each session with a tangible product that contributes to the final writing assignment and leaves them feeling more confident and motivated.

It's a special skill to be able to teach - but to adapt those skills to the attention span of a 4 year old - is an entirely different level of expertise, one that Jane possesses. Jane has been teaching our son Italian for only a short period of time and we already have seen a distinct shift in his willingness to try to speak the language and incorporate it into his day to day. The day I walked into the door from work and he greeted me with a proud "Ciao!" I was so excited. We recommend her highly especially for working with children.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
