I am a currently Certified Elementary Teacher with a Certification Endorsement from the CT Dept. of Education in preschool through grade 8. I have a 6th year degree from SCSU. I am also Certified by the CT Dept. of Ed. as a Library Media Specialist. I have taught school in elementary education for over 30 years. Loved every minute of it! The one-to-one experience allows me to meet the individual needs of my students. Each child is different-each teacher must address that difference. I do. I have taught after school for many years, particularly working with students in Reading to prepare them for the Connecticut Mastery Test. I also have worked with groups of students on many hands-on projects. One project my class worked on was recognized by the National Science Teachers Association. I flew to St. Louis, MI, to receive the plaque and monetary check. All expenses were paid for by NSTA, and I presented at the convention. Teachers from all over the US who had been recognized were at this convention. I had the opportunity to access resources for my school and attend many lectures. The week was a dream for any teacher. I won the Toyota Tapestry award of $10,000.00 for the unit, "the worms go in and the worms go out"-a unit on the Cycle of Life. I also have a special needs son; therefore, I am very familiar with inclusion and IDEA. Many of my parents have asked me to give after school workshops for them in the curriculum. I gave multiple parent workshops in order to familiarize the parents with: CT Mastery Test expectations, daily homework schedules, the daily routine for students and current Math and Science trends. Currently, I work part time for the New Haven Board of Education in the Headstart Program as an Instructional Coach. I would love to work with any parent/student who would like to improve their education and love of learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Special Needs son who is ADD/ADHD and OCD. He has Short Term memory loss and has disgraphia. He also has perceptual vision problems. All of these issues cause multiple problems in learning. I have worked with special needs children for many years in the classroom. With dyslexia, the individual experiences the inability to gather information from conventional print. Some children with dyslexia are gifted learners. They just need the tools to make sense of the written language.

Science is discovery of our world and it's place in the universe. Experimentation, exploration, and step by step knowledge of the how, when, and why of things leads to further discovery. Journal writing, hands-on discoveries, and data driven work leads to higher knowledge. Science for the young student is simply "curiosity" unleashed to learn.
ESL/ESOL refers to learning a new language that is not in your native tongue. Some languages are very close in grammar-Italian, Spanish, Latin, etc. However, others use tone and pitch to express native tongue. I am an English speaking teacher who would help others who's native tongue is not English.
Grammar is the usage of punctuation, phrasing, and spelling in written text. Grammar in oral language is the sound created in an ordered fashion to communicate in any language.
