About Amy

I am an early childhood teacher and have been teaching for 10 years. I am dually certified in regular and special education. I have extensive experience in early childhood regular and special education and specialize in children with autism spectrum disorders. My expertise in special education allows me to see each child as an individual, to find their strengths and differentiate instruction to improve their weaknesses, and to use relative data to assess and drive my instruction to ensure I am meeting the needs of all my students.

I specialize in early elementary reading, phonics, writing, and math.

I am generally available for tutoring Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 5:30pm and after. I can travel to students, meeting at a local library, and am also available online. My rate is $60/hr for in-person sessions and $45/hr for online sessions.

I look forward to helping your child improve and meet his/her potential!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have extensive experience in early childhood special education and specialize in children with autism spectrum disorders. I taught special education preschool for the last 8 years; and before that was a paraprofessional in the same special education preschool. My students included children with speech delays, global developmental delays, autism, and rare genetic disorders.

I have experience doing discrete trial instruction and PECS.

My expertise in special education allows me to see each child as an individual, to find their strengths and differentiate instruction to improve their weaknesses, and to use relative data to assess and drive my instruction to ensure I am meeting the needs of all my students.

Handwriting

I have experience teaching Preschool, Kindergarten, and First grade where handwriting is first introduced.

Phonics

Phonics is a method to teach phonemic awareness- which is the ability to hear, identify and manipulate sounds. I have experience teaching Preschool, Kindergarten, and First grade where these critical skills are introduced and learned.

Reading

I'm a dually certified teacher in regular and special education. My extensive special education background and experience allows me to differentiate my instruction to ensure I am meeting your child needs.
