About Josh

Hi! My name is Josh and as a recently-graduated science major (Biochemistry) from the University of Cincinnati, I know all too well the difficulties students face in challenging math and science classes. However, I also know how to excel in courses like these, as evidenced by a perfect 4.0 GPA and Summa Cum Laude Honors upon graduation from UC.

Perhaps more importantly, though, is the fact that I have extensive tutoring experience. Whether it's tutoring through school, private tutoring, or as an employee at a well-known tutoring company, I've spent the last four years guiding dozens of students to grades and scores they never thought possible. I'm extremely proud of my track record too: virtually ALL of my students have improved by AT LEAST one letter grade, with many improving by 2 and 3 letter grades. One student in particular went from scoring in the low 30s (not a typo) on her first semester final in AP Chemistry, to routinely notching scores in the mid-90s during the second semester after enlisting my services.

In addition to subject tutoring, I can help in standardized exam prep as well. As you can see below, I've taken a number of standardized tests over the last few years and obtained exceptional results. Whether it's the ACT, SAT, or some other admissions test you or your student are preparing for, I have the requisite knowledge and skills to help achieve even the loftiest of goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I've worked the previous 18 months as a tutor for a well-known nationwide tutoring company that specializes in exam prep - especially for the ACT and SAT. I know the material extremely well (I scored a perfect 36 in Math on an official practice exam) and have counseled numerous students to large score increases. In fact, most will enjoy a jump of 3-5 points, with very hard-working and dedicated students scoring even higher! Remember, with higher test scores come greater opportunities for college and chances for lucrative scholarships. Put me to work for you today!

ACT Science

I know the material extremely well (I scored a perfect 36 in Science on an officially administered practice exam and I graduated from the Univ. of Cincinnati with a 4.0 GPA in Biochemistry) and have counseled numerous students to large score increases. I've worked the previous 18 months as a tutor for a well-known nationwide tutoring company that specializes in exam prep - especially for the ACT and SAT. In fact, most will enjoy a jump of 3-5 points, with very hard-working and dedicated students scoring even higher! Algebra 1

I've tutored a few dozen algebra students over the past three years, and virtually every student has enjoyed great success along the way. While I'm confident the student will improve by at least one letter grade, most students I work with see their grade sky rocket two or three letters! I've helped many students go from a "D" to an "A," something they never thought possible when we started. With some hard work and my help, you or your student can show serious improvement in the classroom too!

Algebra 2

I've tutored a few dozen algebra students over the past three years, and virtually every student has enjoyed great success along the way. While I'm confident the student will improve by at least one letter grade, most students I work with see their grade sky rocket two or three letters! I've helped many kids go from a "D" to an "A," something they never thought possible when we started. With some hard work and my help, you or your student can show serious improvement in the classroom too!

Biochemistry

I have extensive experience in the subject of biochemistry. Not only did I major in biochem as an undergraduate (earning a 4.0 GPA along the way), I also later took a medical biochemistry course at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (in which I also earned an "A"). Couple this knowledge with several years of tutoring experience, and I'm an ideal candidate to help you or your child do well in the challenging subject of biochemistry.

Chemistry

I consider tutoring chemistry to be my forte. As a biochemistry major, I studied courses such as general and organic chemistry, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and, of course, biochemistry. I excelled in every class, earning an A each semester. More importantly, I've been able to use the knowledge I've acquired to help numerous chemistry students struggling to grasp the difficult concepts and intimidating math inherent within the subject. I know how to break down the material into digestible parts, and I can show students how they, too, can succeed come test day.

MCAT

I've taken around 25-30 practice MCAT tests, and reviewed over two dozen MCAT exam prep books. I've sat for an actual MCAT twice, the most recent time scoring a 38 (14 PS, 11 VR, 13 BS), which is around the 99th percentile. Through extensive experience and various other forms of standardized exam prep, I've learned effective skills and strategies that can really help to improve your score.

Organic Chemistry

I've taken a full organic chemistry course at the University of Cincinnati and earned an A each semester. On the ACS Organic Chemistry exam, I scored a 65/70, which placed me in the 98th percentile nationally.

Additionally, I've tutored the subject for the past 3 years for college students taking the course as well as those preparing to take the MCAT. Almost all my students improved dramatically after enlisting me as their tutor.

Physics

There's a good reason physics is regarded as one of the hardest subjects high school and college students will face in their academic careers. Confronted with challenging concepts and a seemingly endless supply of intimidating equations, many students are simply overwhelmed by the difficult nature of the course. As a student who has excelled in the subject and successfully tutored others afterwards, I'm an ideal candidate to help you or your child improve in the physics classroom.

Physiology

I've personally taken a physiology course twice -- once as an undergraduate and again through the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Through a lot of hard work I notched the class's highest grade each time. As such, I have an extensive understanding of how to succeed and excel in this course. Additionally, I've worked as a tutor for the past three years, learning and utilizing effective methods to imparting the knowledge I've acquired. Allow me to use my experience to help you today!
