I have been a Montessori directress for 25 years and also homeschooled my own five children, plus numerous foster children. Two of my children are also Montessori teachers. I have been a homeschool consultant and am still in contact with many of my former students. I would like to have more flexible hours in the coming years. I have a variety of Montessori materials that aid in my instruction for a large curriculum.
While I have taught children from age five through age nine, including an extensive curriculum such as language, (including grammar, reading, phonics, spelling, and handwriting), elementary math, science, geography, and research techniques, I prefer the language and creative writing areas. It is important to assess the type of learner each child is, in order to effectively connect and address the needs of that child.
I use a variety of resources to instruct a particular subject. Depending on the needs of the child and the goal of the parents, the proper tools would be introduced for a successful session. Montessori materials are usually well received and have proven successful in most cases.
I regularly check my email and would prefer this type of initial contact. Libraries are a good location for an academic setting, conducive to a friendly environment and access to any additional appropriate resources. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
