Barnard College - Columbia University (Chemistry)
I am a Barnard College-Columbia University Class of 2013 alumna who loves tutoring. As an undergraduate, I tutored students in pre-calculus, calculus, and elementary physics courses at my college. One summer, I was paid full time to be a residential math teaching assistant for incoming college students. I attended pre-calculus and calculus classes with my students, planned/led independent tutoring workshops for the entire group, graded homework assignments, and went on social outings with students. I can also offer valuable help in algebra and pre-algebra courses based on my experience tutoring a neighbor while she was in middle school. I love making math fun for students and enjoy seeing them learn.
I have a BA in chemistry, so I am also able to offer chemistry help at the middle school and high school levels. I enjoy making these classes seem easier and more friendly for students of all backgrounds. It is very rewarding to see students build confidence in themselves.
My schedule is very flexible, so please don't hesitate to contact me! I cannot wait to meet some new students and help them continue their passion for learning! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I spent quite some time working as a math tutor when I was a college student. I am familiar with one-on-one tutoring, planning/leading tutoring workshops, and understanding a student's individual needs since everyone has their own unique way of learning.
I have independently planned and led math tutor workshops for college students when I was an undergraduate student. I am familiar with understanding an individual student's needs and using that to help them understand the material to the best of their ability. I am happy to help with Algebra 2!
