About Alicia

Passion is a strong driving force, a need and a love for something, passion is what compelled me towards the Arts. Since a very young age I have been eating every bit of knowledge I could get my hands on; this quickly turned into a very focused attempt towards reading literary classics and the like. My love of fiction and imagination grew from there; I soon discovered writing and all the freedoms that came with being able to create. At first I wrote pages of terrible stories and awkward poems but years of practice and a degree in English have refined those skills. My journey with fine arts started in much the same way. I was exposed very young to a variety of artists and mediums, encouraged to explore them myself, and once I was in high school my extra-curricular activities were easy to predict.
Collage opened a lot of doors for me. I have a double degree in Art and English and because of my passion for learning I made a lot of opportunities for myself. I started tutoring in college, and had quite a few English students as well as a few photography students. I quickly fell in love with teaching. I tutored all through college, and that same passion for learning and the arts that had been mine since childhood soon was imparted into many minds of my peers.
Many times people don’t look beneath the surface of a hard subject, but we all have passions, things that drive us to want something, to want to learn about something and every subject has an area where that passion can thrive. My passion is literature and the arts, and I love to help others find places in the arts where their passion can thrive.

I have my bachelor's in English and my focus in school was writing and literary studies. I have taken many classes and tutored many peers in these areas for all four years of college. I also have my bachelor's in art with a concentration in photography, I have taken digital and film courses, and worked with many other mediums such as metal, ceramic, and have taken art history as well.

I enjoy hands-on, visual and written teaching. I often like to use a lot of examples and draw a lot of parallels between the subjects we are learning and other important events happening worldwide at the time the work was written or the piece of art was created. I am a big believer that everyone learns differently and flash cards aren’t for everyone, however time must be put into learning especially if it’s a problem area, which often means homework. Please email me to learn more and schedule a session!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

I have a bachelors degree in photography with a 3.8 graduating GPA. I won a professional achievement award for my photographic work in my thesis showcase. I have won awards in several other showcases as well as being chosen to show in a gallery in Brooklyn NY after graduating from college. I have a well rounded background in film and digital as I have worked in both a film lab and a digital design lab. I was the manager of a photo studio for two years. I currently have a website that I maintain with my work and I have tutored peers successfully throughout college.
