Muhlenberg College (English and Theater)
Sacred HEart University (MEd)
I am a highly energetic, enthusiastic, creative, and cooperative professional educator seeking a position tutoring any grade level English/Language Arts or basic level other subjects (up to seventh grade mathematics, science, and history). I have a history of teaching and working as a paraeducatior at Newtown Middle School, teaching at Danbury High School, and am currently a teacher in Waterbury.
In addition to teaching I love animals and have a rescue dog and cat at home.
I am currently a certified English teacher. I majored in English at Muhlenberg College and have been teaching English Language Arts to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Waterbury since the beginning of last school year. I also taught English to 9th graders in Danbury two years ago. I have studded Shakespeare, British Literature, and American Literature extensively. My background in theater has also made me an expert on both American theater and world theater. That theater background also makes me qualified to be an excellent public speaking coach.
In addition to being a certified teacher I have had extensive experience working with students who have special needs including ADHD/ADD, Asperger’s, Autism, Down Syndrome, Dyslexia, ED, hearing impairments, LD, OCD, ODD, Pandas, and many more. I currently work with students who have behavior problems.
Please contact me to set up an appointment for tutoring. I am available on evenings and weekends throughout the school year as I am a full time teacher during the day. Over the summer and school breaks my availability will increase. I prefer to meet at the local library (local coffee shops are generally too noisy), or your home so that you can get the most out of your tutoring session. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
